Audience Research For Music Video (Late)

Below are some pie charts I made from a questionnaire I carried out as audience research before the film.
Unfortunately I have only just found the data from the questionnaire.

To collect the data I asked 20 people who were within the target audience of our music video. Below are the results that came up.

The above data shows how our target audience would prefer the video to be more performance based rather than narrative based. I feel this may be because the target audience prefer going to gigs than watching music videos and would want a music video that imitates the gigs that they go to. However, we used narrative based sequences within our video as well as performance based.

The above pie chart shows that our target audience would want the video to be in black & white.

The above pie chart shows that the target audience would want our characters/band members to be dressed smartly, this may be because of the image of the band members that will appeal to the target audience. Some of the target audience would want the band members to dress formally so we decided to go for a smart/casual look in our video.

Most of the target audience wanted the video to be shot on stage, this may be because of the target audience's preference for the video to have performance shots to mimic a gig. The second highest title was on the streets, to balance this out we shot some of the video on stage and some on a street.

The above pie chart shows how the audience would want the characters/band members to be teenagers. This may be due to the age demographic of the target audience.

October 21st - Editing the sequence

Today my group and I edited the sequnce we filmed yesterday using, "Final Cut Pro" on the Mac. Using previous knowledge of editing software, we found this process to be relatively easy. Using our inspiration from The Vixens video, we edited our sequence so that all four characters faced each other in quick succession.

October 20th

Today my group and I made some practise sequences with the camera. We filmed four people looking in different directions. Using our inspiration from, "The Vixens" we made the film using four friends. We found some problems when doing this as the people we chose to be in the sequence were not the best actors. However, this did not matter as we would be editiing it later.

Videos we have taken inspiration from for our video

Chosen Song

The Email

The band replied back to our email, below is a copy of the email conversation:

Dear Jan,

My name is Ewan Smith, and I am a sixth form student in Essex. I am studying media and film, and would like to use The New Town Centres song Bacalao in some of my group’s Media Studies A2 coursework.
In this coursework, we have to create a music video which has strong ideological ties to the chosen piece of music. We’ve chosen your song because we liked the idea of doing a song without strong pre-conceived connotations, and an interesting theme that we can expand on in the video. It is not for financial gain, and if you would like we can keep you updated with our progress; if you agree to let us use the song, that is!

Yours sincerely,
Ewan Smith.

We have just sent an email to the band, New Town Centres, Asking to use their music viedeo. We are now waiting for a response....

A2 Music Video

For my A2 Media Studies course we have been given the task of creating a music video. We started off our task by researching music that we would like to make our video for. The first stage we found to be quite tricky, as finding a good song to set a creative video to that we all agreed on was difficult at first but after much discussion we found a really good song and all had ideas to go with it.

The song we chose was, "Bacalao" By stevenage band, "New Town Centres". We all began brainstorming and found some rough ideas for our video.
